A caller from Kansas City asked if we would be interested is selling our contract. He said we have a Grand Mayan and a corporate client is buying blocks of contracts. Why? Tax write-off. Really??... ... We apologize for not getting the name to pass along to you but know you will take excellent precautions to stay away from such cold-call efforts to get information about your ownership.

Another Aimfair member notified us of his opportunity to strike it ricn! The person who contacted him was from Empire Realty Gourp Incorporated, supposedly in Chicago. He shared the following letter with us:

As discussed with your assigned broker, Stephanie Roberts, we were retained by an investor who is interested in acquiring several fractional ownerships such as yours. Attached you will find a formal letter of intent to buy your unit, the offer is based on the information that your broker gathered for you during your initial call. We advise that you allow your assigned broker to address all matters as this allows for a smooth transaction for you and our buyer. The offer attached is based on today’s fair market value and was compared to other properties with similar accommodations. Please return the proposed offer along with your proof of ownership. This correspondence has all the earmarks of a scam. Please note the following:

1. The company claims to have been in business since 2018, but the domain was created 22 days ago on May 11, 2020. It expires on May 11, 2021. There are no other similar domains that would suggest the business has been active since 2018.
2. The address is 38 S Wabash Ave Chicago, IL 60603. Note, there is no suite number in this multi-story building, so anything sent through the main or courier services would be returned.

As we all return to making travel plans to visit Mexico, expect to be bothered by scammers who impersonate legitimate businesses and agencies. There is no avoiding them because they have lists of names that date back many years.

Just ask yourself - if you wanted to get the best deal possible, would you offer prices that are way over what the developer charges? In addition to that, would you pay a high price for a contract that is not full term? Answer - No!

Remember this - we do not own real estate. We own a lease, and our leases are subject to availability. There is no question we all love the facilities we can access, but the value of our lease does not increase with time. Just say "No" to scammers!
