The Grand Mayan at San Jose del Cabo is under construction again. Last time the property was in disarray was because of damage caused by Hurricane Odile on September 14, 2014. Today, consturction of the Hakkasan beach club/facility is well underway causing noise and inconvenience. This photo shows the planned construction. Thank you Lindag2 for the file. The Hakkasan Group is creating a beach club/restaurant facility at the San Jose del Cabo property. It will be a Herringbone designed "Day Life" facility. Here is a description of the Herringbone brand of restaurant as seen on the Hakkason Group website:- Herringbone, a restaurant brand conceptualized by Chef Brian Malarkey, features “Fish Meats Field” coastal cuisine with an emphasis on line-caught seafood and high-quality meats.
- Herringbone’s menus showcase market-driven ingredients from land, sea and field which complement the thoughtfully curated wine selection. Filled with a sense of nautical whimsy, Herringbone’s innovative design creates a fresh, contemporary atmosphere of easy Southern California beach living. The coastal charm of each location allows guests to set sail on a unique culinary and social dining experience.
The Butlers chose to spend their 47th anniversary at this property, and they found it to be noisy and active with construction.

The property has a beautiful beach:
The beach and pool areas are open and in use. The beach is broad and walkable. Only experienced, strong swimmers can swim off the beach because of the currents.

It appears the Hakkasan pool area will be closer to the main building and behind these pools. They sure are inviting now though....

The grocery store in the Grand Mayan seems to offer some of the same products as are offered in La Plaza at Nuevo Vallarta. Just a smaller version.

The only thing we are missing is the sound of all the machines and equipment working away to meet deadlines. The constrction here in San Jose del Cabo brings back memories of earth movers, jack hammers, trucks and constant sounds of construction in Nuevo Vallarta. Amazing how fast time flies.
That said, use of the San Jose del Cabo Grand Mayan may not be very high while construction is completed. But, when done, it will be a unique facility. Plus, it appears larger units may become available then too.
