San Jose del Cabo is an historical city founded by the need for a permanent Spanish settlement at the tip of what is now Baja California and called the cape. The route from the Philippines to Acapulco taken by Spanish galleons included a stop at the mouth of the Rio San Jose to obtain fresh water. Later, Indian uprisings in 1723, 1725 and 1729 forced the Spanish to build Mission San Jose del Cabo on a mesa overlooking Rio San Jose, which is about 5 km. north of the current town site. More....

The San Jose del Cabo course is not on the property. It is the first course located in southern Baja and called Punta Sur. Punta Sur is off the property and located a few minutes away in San Jose del Cabo. The following link provides more information:
