2022-07-16 This update is as of June 17, 2022 when an Aimfair member visited the 8th and 9th floors of The Grand Mayan Copán Tower. What he found were rooms on the 8th floor that were being demoed to prepare for construction of the new Luxxe DeLuxxe configurations that are being sold now.

It is interesting to see the work being done. For example, the proposed units are supposed to be Luxxe and Punta levels of quality. All would have ocean views. The units would extend into newly configured hallways. They would be the size of Luxxe units. There are probably many other observations and representations out there too.

Photos are worth a thousand words. What many of us were told does not seem to be materializing.

There is one piece of good news. A Facebook post implied there would be no shuttle service to the Grand Mayan buildings. The following photo shows the current Shuttle Routes, and it appears Route #4 services the Grand Mayan. What do you think?

This is the most up to date Shuttle schedule we have. Send a new one if you have it. Note - Grand Mayan is Shuttle 4.
This is the most up to date Shuttle schedule we have. Send a new one if you have it. Note - Grand Mayan is Shuttle 4.

Regardless, progress is being made. Opening of the Luxxe DeLuxxe at the Grand Mayan could take place in December, 2022. That would make many members happy as their membership might include Elite Weeks.

Before:

Models in May, 2022 - First Glimpse.

It's clear from the photos we don't know the final configurations. What we can get is a sense for the layout, the interior space and the direction the units are moving in. They don't look like Luxxe Villa layouts or equivalents, but we don't have the final, final yet.

The Interim

The Demo work continues. There is some confusion. The units in the following photos could be remnants of the Grand Mayan units that are being prepared for demolition. Anyway, you get the idea about the work being done on the 8th and 9th floors of the Copán Tower.
Thank you goes out to the Aimfair Members who took the time to visit the construction site and share their photos with us. We are all grateful.

2022-06-25 I saw an interesting statement posted on Facebook today. It confirms what a lot of us say in person, but we never see it in print. Bottom line: this person's opinion is Grand Luxxe facilities and experience and price is superior to their experience at a Disney location in Hawaii. Here is the post:
An observation and opinion. We’ve been satisfied members for nearing a decade now. This summer we decided to do Disney’s Aulani resort in Ko Olina, Oahu, Hawaii. It is beautiful and we’re having a great time but also we are comparing it to Vidanta. Vidanta is winning , In Our opinion. Not as nice of restaurants here as Vidanta. Not as any pools or nighttime entertainment. Rooms are comparable. Travel time to Hawaii is a lot longer. The staff and people here are kind and gracious but nobody compares to the staff at Vidanta . The biggest kicker is prices!! One week here cost as much as an upgrade at Vidanta, and it’s only one week, not all inclusive either! I am so glad we belong to Vidanta.
Sure, we all have preferences, and they are not necessarily the same as the next person. That said, statements about how good we have it in Nuevo Vallarta or Riviera Maya at the Grand Luxxe Residence Club are more common than not.

What do you think? Are the facilities, services and overall experiences at Vidanta superior to those offered by other vacation options? Let us all know by leaving your comment below.

2022-06-11 Charles and his family just returned from a wonderful visit at the Residence in Riviera Maya, complete with grand kids and other family members. It was a great time, and a true memory builder experience.

He shared his photos to update Aimfair Members on the Salum in Riviera Maya. The differences between Riviera Maya and Nuevo Vallarta are the physical settings, with Riviera Maya being more intimate and Nuevo Vallarta being more of a playground. Following photos are of Salum, the Beach Club and Restaurants at Salum in Riviera Maya:

2022-06-07 The changes taking place in Nuevo Vallarta at the beach include opening of the Infinity Pool west of the entrance to SkyDream Gondola Beach Station. You all have seen the highlighted areas already.

This Infinity Pool is the rooftop of what we were told was going to be a kitchen. Not yet. Decorative feature with the sky meeting the water.

This Infinity Pool is the rooftop of what we were told was going to be a kitchen. Not yet. Decorative feature with the sky meeting the water.

The Infinity Pool is not for swimming. Rather, it is a feature at the end of the 2 mile ride on the SkyDream Gondola from the SkyDream Park I to the beach. This water feature has been under development for at least a year. Each time we visited the area, the water was not very attractive and the pool was not full. Larry's photos show the pool is now ready. Will there be a water show there too? Stay tuned....

Also, we always wondered how the area under the pool would be used. The last time we were in Nuevo Vallarta was January 2022. We could not see what was under the pool. Well now we can, and it does not look like a kitchen. Well, that may have been a great idea, but for now, the golf carts are being stored there.

The area under the rooftop Infinity pool is now being used as cart storage.

The manmade creek bed is really beautiful. Larry caught the attraction of this feature in his photos. It is truly appealing to be walking toward the beach on an elevated wooden walkway, and then pass this feature on the way to Salum - the fun entertainment and fast food area in front of the beach.

The manmade creek bed is a nice feature that displays circulating water flowing through the creek bed. Here it parallels the elevated walkway.

The foliage along the elevated walkway path is dense but not uncomfortable. It is a very pleasing feature.

Larry arrived at the Estates Exclusive seating area at the beach and found work being done. All the posts that supported the palapa-like structures that provide shade for Estates owners beach-lovers who reserve their seating options. Clearly, there is no problem with getting a seat when Larry was visiting the area, but that changes during the high season in December, January and February.

We thoroughly enjoy the Estates Reserved Seating area at the beach. Clearly not many people were there in May.

It is great to see the beach area and appreciate Larry taking time to send us all photos we can enjoy.

The CDC order requiring persons to show a negative COVID-19 test result or documentation of recovery from COVID-19 before boarding a flight to the United States, is rescinded, effective on June 12, 2022, at 12:01AM ET. This means that starting at 12:01AM ET on June 12, 2022, air passengers will not need to get tested and show a negative COVID-19 test result, nor show documentation of recovery from COVID-19, prior to boarding a flight to the United States, regardless of vaccination status or citizenship. Of note, CDC’s Order requiring proof of vaccination for noncitizen nonimmigrants to travel to the United States is still in effect. Travel Advice from Charles Schwab - 5 Ways to Save Money When Traveling Abroad

June 16, 2022

Charles Schwab posted an interesting article about traveling and saving money. It is not a long read, and it has some interesting points. We thought you would like to consider them, so here they are....and the most important recommendation is don't let unnecessary expenses eat into your vacation budget.

Travel has become more expensive—a fact you're probably well aware of if you're taking a trip overseas this summer. While there's no price you can put on making memories that will last a lifetime, there's also no reason to spend money on fees you can easily avoid. Here are five tips for keeping costs low and managing your money during your next trip abroad.

  1. Steer clear of transaction costs
Most credit and debit card issuers charge foreign-transaction fees, which typically run between 1% and 3% of the purchase price, as well as ATM fees. That might seem like a minor expense per transaction, but all those extra charges can really add up.

Look into the fees imposed by your banks and credit card companies. (The overall fee is often a combination of two fees, one from the issuing bank and one from the card company.) And note that even if you have a fee-free card, ATMs or merchants may still charge a fee. Always check your card's terms and conditions to find out exactly what fees you're responsible for.

  2. Find the best exchange rate
Airport currency kiosks may be convenient, but they also tend to be pricey, charging anywhere from $5 to $15 to exchange money. Even so-called no-fee exchanges tend to make a profit off their highly unfavorable exchange rates.

Cash withdrawals from ATMs are generally the best choice for day-to-day funds—but, again, beware of transaction fees. Some banks impose a flat fee per withdrawal, while others do not and may even refund those levied by others.

If you anticipate needing cash, exchanging currency at your local bank, post office, or American Express office before you leave may provide a lower rate. Once you arrive at your destination, you might be able to get a decent exchange rate at your hotel as well.

  3. Watch out for "dynamic currency conversion"
Many travelers are enticed by the convenience and familiarity of receiving bills—at restaurants, for instance—in U.S. dollars. But this new trend, called dynamic currency conversion, often comes with an unfavorable exchange rate, transaction fees, or both. So, when asked if you want to pay a bill in the local currency or in U.S. dollars, go with the local option—unless you can verify that the cost is negligible and worth it, to you, for the familiarity factor.

  4. Secure your information
Nothing ruins a trip like a lost or stolen wallet, so take a picture of the contents of your wallet, including the fronts and backs of credit, debit, and insurance cards so you can find all of those important phone numbers to call in case of emergency. Keep a copy on your phone—or better yet, in the cloud—along with pictures of your passport and any other important documentation.

Also, be sure to activate fraud alerts for all accounts that offer them so you're notified right away of suspicious activity. Sophisticated cybercriminals are often able to capture your financial information even if your cards stay in your possession.

You may be able to set up a travel notice to have your bank monitor your accounts for fraudulent activity when traveling. When travel monitoring is active, debit and credit cards are scrutinized for high-risk transactions.

  5. Take advantage of built-in benefits
Before you book your trip, see if your credit or debit cards offer travel-related perks that can save you money or ease your journey. For example, many offer hotel and restaurant reservation assistance, free Wi-Fi access on eligible flights, and even discounts on certain types of accommodation and transportation. Review your cards' benefit terms, or call your providers for full details.
Our most recent trip was to Turkey. It was fabulous and our timing was perfect. Great weather, pre-crowds, great tour operator and terrific guide. In our case, the guides make all the difference when traveling to a new place. We would add select a great tour operator to guide your through your trip. The memories will last much longer, and they will all be good ones.
It's time to travel. Get out there and enjoy your trip and the people you are with. It makes all the difference!

2022-05-26 Guests will enter SkyDream Park I through an archway located on the West side of the SkyDream Park I boundary, which is about midway between the Vidanta Nuevo Vallarta Beach and Highway 200. The entrance will include a walkway around the SkyDream Park I Entrance Lagoon. The walkway is at the edge of the lagoon, and all are at the bottom of a man-made crater-like structure. Note on the upsides of the crater walls are cement structures that appear to provide additional water features to the entrance walkway.

Powerful pumps and water jets will project thousands of gallons of water high in the air. It appears the water displays will not only be located in the center of the large lagoon, but also in the cement structures located half way up the slope from the central walkway.

Nighttime well lit water show extravaganzas are planned as well. A light show will create a huge attraction, and it will likely be visible from Highway 200 and planes leaving Puerto Vallarta at night.

The entrance is just the start of things. We are all anticipating the SkyDream Park I will be a fun entertainment center. Stay tuned....

2022-05-21 Sargassum Landing on Mexico’s Resort Beaches

Since before 2016, Sargassum has landed on resort beaches during the beginning of each summer. Vidanta’s Riviera Maya beach has been moderately affected. Others are not so lucky. The clean-up begins...

2022-05-17 Larry and Maria just returned from three weeks in Nuevo Vallarta. They had a great time, as always and shared their photos with us.

The subject of this post is the status of the new bridge that will parallel "the longest golf cart suspension bridge in the world" that is in place now. Traffic delays can be a problem because the current bridge is one way, and it serves not only the golfers playing and returning from playing the Norman and Nayar Courses, but also the guests staying at the Estates and Empire Estates facilities.

The photo trip starts at the Jalisco Traffic Control station. Carts traveling in one direction are allowed to cross, while carts going in the opposite direction have to wait. Yes, it can be time consuming.

Security guards at each end of the bridge control the one-way traffic on the bridge. center

As they travel north across the Ameca River, the new Grand Luxxe Tower structure becomes obvious, located between the end of Tower Six and the Celebrate Park Resort Hotel. It is about two years from completion if work is constant.

The new Grand Luxxe Tower will offer more accommodations for future guests.
The new Grand Luxxe Tower will offer more accommodations for future guests.

There is a new roadway used by construction efforts between Tower 6 and the new Luxxe Tower. It likely will become the new route to the beach from the Estates. Also, did you know there is another building under construction between Tower 6 and Celebrate Park Resort Hotel? Take a look:

The foundation structures are growing at this new building site.

The area with the gondola tower and looking toward the SkyDream Parks may become a sports complex. Just dirt now.

A the North end, we see the deep, long and wide trench that has at least 8 large footings with rebar protruding from the tops of each. It appears these will be part of the foundation for the new bridge.

It looks like completing the bridge is many months away, if not a year. But who knows. A lot can be done when resources are devoted to the job. What do you think?

Thank you Larry and Maria. We will all .... Stay tuned....
