Photos of the Grupo Vidanta Properies
Acapulco, Mexico
The Grupo Vidanta Property at Acapulco, Mexico is situated on a stretch of beach that is south of the central part of town and about five miles north of the Acapulco International Airport. It offers three levels of resorts: the Grand Mayan, Mayan Palace and Sea Garden. The Sea Garden appears to be transitioning to a hotel. In addition, the property sports a 72 hole golf course, which is now called the Cobra Course.
During our November, 2010 stay, we heard a new Mayan Palace resort facility had opened. This was confirmed by our friend Pittle, who sent us her review and photos. Pittle's photos ppear below. A high rise building has been under construction for several years. Finally, rumors are there may be a Grand Luxxe Residence facility built on this property as well.

La Jolla de Cortes - Puerto Penasco, Mexico
The Mayan Palace at La Jolla de Cortes, Mexico is surrounded by a 20,000 acre of more piece of property called La Jolla de Cortes. This Grupo Vidanta owned property is a mega-resort master urban plan that is located about 20 miles south of Puerto Penasco, or Rocky Point, which is a small fishing community on the shores of the northeast tip of the Sea of Cortes.According to a Grupo Vidanta page, which is under development plans for this property include gourmet restaurants, shopping, leisure activities, water sports, lakes and canals that connect two world class golf courses (designed by Jack Nicklaus and Greg Norman) with Grupo Mayan luxury resorts (The Mayan Palace, The Grand Mayan), real estate, condominium buildings and a five-star Beach Club. Grupo Vidanta would like La Jolla de Cortes to become a modern Venice.
La Jolla de Cortes will be served by Mexico's newest International Airport called Mar de Cortes International Airport. This airport is also owned and operated by Grupo Vidanta and will provide access to the area for travelers living nearby in the Southwest states of the United States.
It will be fun to bring together photos of the Mayan Property at La Jolla de Cortes and surrounding areas. We have a lot to learn.

Mazatlan, Mexico
According to WikiBin and Mayanresorts.info, Grupo Mayan Resorts began operations in 1975 with its first property called Pariso Mazatlan. A second property followed in 1979, which was called Pariso del Mar, also located in Mazatlan. In 1984, the then fledgling Grupo Mayan Resorts inaugurated its third property in Mazatlan, which the company called Costa Brava Hotel (Brave Coast Hotel). This hotel is located only a short walk from the Paraiso del Mar. Later, Costa Brava Hotel changed its name to Vidafel Mazatlan, which later was changed again to Sea Garden.Mazatlan offers a slower paced vacation, which can be highlighted by golf and fishing. It is an industrial town and has not been reliant on tourism to the extent other major cities in Mexico have.
We all look forward to viewing your photos of the Mazatlan properties, so please do not hesitate to send them in to us.

Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico
In Mexico, there are three levels of administrative governance: Federal, States and Municipalities. Nuevo Vallarta is none of the above. Instead, it is a community that is located within the state of Nayarit and the municipality of Bahia de Banderas. We know Bahia de Banderas as the beautiful bay on which Nuevo Vallarta, Puerto Vallarta, Bucerias and communities up to Punta Mita are located. But we did not know the Bahia de Banderas was also a municipality. It was created in 1989, not too long ago! In 2005, the population of Bahia de Banderas municipality was 83,739.
The municipal seat is Valle de Banderas, with a population of 5,057 in 2005. Other towns in the municipality include Bucerias, Punta Mita, San Juan de Abajo, San Jose del Valle, San Vincente and Jarretaderas, which is the closest town to the Mayan Property at Nuevo Vallarta.
The southern border of the state of Nayarit and municipality of Bahia de Banderas is the Ameca River, which is also the southern most border of the Mayan Property at Nuevo Vallarta.

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico
The states of Nayarit, where Nuevo Vallarta is located and Jalisco, where Puerto Vallarta is located is bordered by the Ameca River, which creates the southern border of the Mayan Property in Nuevo Vallarta.Puerto Vallarta is one of the 125 municipalities located in the state of Jalisco. Quite a difference from the 20 municipalities that are located in the state of Nayarit. But then, Jalisco has a population of 7,350,682 in 2010 and ranks fourth in population among the states in Mexico. Guatalajara is the capital of Jalisco, which is about 4 hours east of Puerto Vallarta and the second largest metropolitan area in Mexico after Mexico City.
Puerto Vallarta is the government seat of the Municipality of Puerto Vallarta, which includes not only the city of Puerto Vallarta, but also the surrounding communities, from Boca de Tomatlan to the Ameca River, which is the border between the states of Jalisco and Nayarit.
Although the state of Jalisco has the fourth largest population of all states in Mexico, Puerto Vallarta has a population of 233,725, according to the census taken in 2010. Interestingly, Puerto Vallarta is the sixth largest city in the state of Jalisco.
One other interesting comment: did you know there are over 1,000 restaurants in Puerto Vallarta. That's one restaurant for under 233 people in Puerto Vallarta. Tourism is an important economic driver in Puerto Vallarta!

Riviera Maya is a strip along the east coast of Mexico that caters to tourism. It is rich in history, has several interesting towns and provides access to some of the most beautiful water in the world.Highway 307 is the coastal highway that parallels the Caribbean coastline from Playa del Carmen through the village of Talum. All of this is in the state of Quintana Roo, which is located on the eastern portion of the Yucatan Peninsula.
Wikipedia states Riveria Maya historically started in the city of Playa del Carmen and ended in the village of Tulum. The towns of Puerto Morelos, which is north of both Playa del Carmen and the Grupo Vidanta property, as well as the town of Felipe Carrillo Puerto, which is about 25 miles to the south of Tulum. Both claim to be in the Riviera Maya tourist corridor, and the Grupo Vidanta property is within these boundaries.
The area is famous for large, all-inclusive resorts, smaller boutique hotels and many fine restaurants, all of which are along the highway 307 corridor. Interestingly, there are wonderful beaches with public access along the highway 307 corridor as well.
According to the Wikipedia post, the Mexican government plans to establish a number of medium sized cities of ~200,000 inhabitants over the next 20 or so years. According to the article, the targeted towns include Puerto Morelos (which is a few miles north of the Grupo Vidanta property), Puerto Aventuras, Akumal, Chemuyl and Tulum.
There is no question that the area is a wonderful place to visit and enjoy.
